Boston Bruins
Vice President, Communications; Vice President, Finance
The Opportunity
Over the course of a calendar year, the Boston Bruins partnered with Prodigy Search to fill two critical leadership roles: Vice President of Communications and Vice President of Finance- each essential to supporting the organization’s long-term growth and operational performance. The Communications role required a senior executive to lead media relations, public relations, and content strategy, serving as the organization’s primary spokesperson and shaping the club’s voice across all platforms.
The Finance role called for a senior leader to oversee financial operations across the Bruins, TD Garden, and Delaware North Boston-based entities, with responsibility for complex reporting, multi-entity oversight, and NHL-specific compliance. Together, the searches required distinct leadership profiles and expertise, reflecting the organization’s need to strengthen both brand strategy and business operations.
The Prodigy Approach
Prodigy Search conducted two targeted, nationwide searches, developing tailored strategies aligned to each role’s unique technical requirements and leadership expectation, as well as expectations of the organization.
Leveraging a long-standing relationship with the Boston Bruins, the Prodigy Search executive recruitment team applied deep institutional knowledge to assess candidates not only on experience, but on their ability to operate effectively within a high-profile, multi-entity sports and entertainment environment. For Communications, the focus centered on executives with proven experience in media strategy, content leadership, and brand management within professional sports. For Finance, the search prioritized candidates with a rare combination of sports experience, Big Four accounting backgrounds, and expertise in overseeing complex, multi-venue operations.
Through a combination of targeted outreach and broader market sourcing, Prodigy delivered highly qualified candidate pools for both roles, enabling efficient and aligned hiring decisions.
The Outcome
The Boston Bruins successfully hired two critical leadership searches, appointing Vice Presidents of Communications and Finance to strengthen both brand and business operations. Each search delivered a specialized leader aligned to the organization’s distinct needs - one focused on shaping voice, media strategy, and public presence, and the other overseeing complex financial operations across a multi-entity structure.
While actively recruiting consecutive for these leadership positions, the searches required a tailored approach to two unique talent markets, resulting in complementary hires that reinforce both organizational strategy and operational execution. Together, these placements positioned the Bruins to support continued growth, elevate brand impact, and strengthen long-term performance across both business operations and fan engagement.
